Yajaira Vargas Velasquez

Yajaira Vargas Velasquez is a current PhD candidate Cifre at Ipso Facto and the University of South Brittany. She holds a Bsc. degree in Anthropology (Central University of Venezuela, Caracas, Venezuela) and a master’s degree of Maritime and Coastal Archaeology – MOMARCH (Amid*ex, Aix-Marseille University, France). She is a professional diver and has been interested in modern shipwrecks since the beginning of her studies, particularly those in the Caribbean Sea. She approaches on the study of archival material in order to evaluate its potential for recovering archaeological sites. Her research issues is associated to history of techniques and cultural material related to navigation in modern societies in transatlantic scale. Yajaira VARGAS VELASQUEZ field experience is defined by her participation in research programs and rescue archaeological research operations in submerged contexts on different sites in France, Greece and Venezuela: modern wrecks, ancient maritime port structures, submerged caves and prehistoric pile dwellings.
