Future Coast Bude (FCB)
Project location: United Kingdom
Future Coast Bude (FCB) is part of the Coastal Transition Accelerator Programme, which aims to help communities adapt to a changing climate by developing innovative ways to improve flood and coastal resilience. A key area of the project is to deepen understanding of coastal processes and educate people about coastal climate change adaption. To contribute to and to achieve this aim, the MAT has developed a historical coastal baseline that is now showcased in an interactive, user-friendly portal accessible to all. In addition, to ensure the involvement of local communities and stakeholder, a series of in-person outreach events are being held. During these days, the public can discuss and interact with the team working on the project to provide their input and stress their needs and expectations for the project, to ensure the science needed by the stakeholders is delivered. The project emphasises how understanding historical climate change can help with future planning, and through this, promotes the importance of UCH and coastal heritage as a resource that should be understood and protected. The research delivered is beneficial to both policy makers, supporting them in future decision making about coastal management and development, as well as to the local community. By making the information available through the portal the stakeholder are involved and updated in each step of the project and engage with their local UCH through their preferred medium. The portal allows user to explore the history of the area through photographs, postcards, artwork, maps, and charts.
