International Day for Underwater Cultural Heritage
In November 2025, following the recommendation of the UNESCO Executive Board during its 220th session and a proposal by the Arab Republic of Egypt, the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference established the creation of the
International Day for Underwater Cultural Heritage to be celebrated yearly on 21 August.
In 2026 celebrations for the first-ever International Day for UCH were held.
To celebrate, the Accredited NGOs to the 2001 Convention on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage hosted a 24-hour stream of videos on underwater cultural heritage, its significance, and showcasing underwater sites around the world.
