The Sustainable And Resilient Coastal Cities (SARCC) project conceptualized and developed the Nature-Inclusive Urban-Coastal Management Framework (NUM) methodology to mainstream nature-based solutions (NBS) into coastal management and policy making, whether as standalone projects or BS-hybrids, where they are integrated into existing grey infrastructure and flood defences. The project demonstrated how archaeology, palaeoenvironmental material, historic sites and structure, art, photographs, maps, and charts can be used to provide evidence of long term coastal processes and trends that need to be understood to develop coastal management approaches that work with nature. The project built the capacity of urban leaders, decision-makers and officers involved in coastal flood defences to deploy NBS and understand the additional benefits that they offer in comparison to traditional grey infrastructure. An online viewer and the guidance booklets were made available for free on the project’s website ensuring the project’s lasting impact and its repeatability. In addition, the resources were delivered in French and Dutch other than English making them available to audiences with different needs. Videos were also created to convey the aims and results of the project thus generating shared knowledge that can be accessed through a number of media and maximising the project’s impact. The methods and techniques used by partners to co-design, co-create, and co-deliver the project are a successful example of international and intra-organisation collaboration to deliver the “The Science We Need for The Ocean We Want”.
