Joseph W. Zarzynski (Wilton, NY) was RIMAP’s first volunteer. He was a secondary school teacher and avid sport diver, who also led Bateaux Below, the volunteer group that discovered the Lake George Land Tortoise radeau. Zarzynski later took his own M.A. degree in marine archaeology, has since been involved in many other projects, has published a number of books on the subject, and is now a RIMAP professional archaeologist.
